Main Street Tips

  • So, you thought Main Street is just the "entrance" to Disneyland Park? No no, this is a true land of its own, and should demand much more of your time during Christmas Season. See the decorations, marvel at the lights - simply slow down and enjoy the sights, sounds and atmosphere of the most wonderful Christmas in the world!
  • You might be on Main Street, U.S.A., but you've got the weather of paris to contend with! Why not take a break with a brownie and a hot chocolate topped with whipped cream, beneath the flickering gas lamps inside Discovery Arcade or amongst the sweet smells of Cable Car Bake Shop itself.
  • Whether you enjoy shopping or not, do take some time to stroll through the countless boutiques. Extravagantly themed on the most regular of days, their Christmas atmosphere is truly magical and completely unrivalled.
  • If they'../../../../../guides/disneylandpark/mainstreetusa/mainstreetvehicles/">Main Street Vehicles and let the old-fashioned Christmas atmosphere swirl slowly by as you traverse the street.

Fun Facts

  • The tree measures an impressive (and somewhat unbelievable!) 25 metres high, and features embedded lights connected in to the park's central control system, allowing its spectacular light-up to take place in total synchronisation during the Enchanted Candleabration.
  • There are 26 large princess chandeliers lining Main Street, with 8 more smaller lamps surrounding the Central Plaza Stage. The ellipse-shaped emblems decorating the crown share the same iconic design as the main window of Le Château de la Belle au Bois Dormant!
  • The regular snowfall is actually a soapy foam, blown out of special machines positioned on the rooftops of Main Street. Don't worry, though - it has a special formula that won't stain clothes and will "melt" away on the cobbled streets within a few minutes.

The Music

  • The regular daytime and evening music loops of Main Street make way for a complete new loop especially for Christmas Season and unique to this Disneyland Park.
  • From "Joy to the World", "The First Noel" and "Jingle Bells" to "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer", "Carol of the Bells" and "Deck the Halls", this is one of best compilations of classic Christmas music ever produced, all performed by brass bands and orchestras.
  • Credits to the music include the Boston Pops Orchestra, Philadelphia Brass Ensemble, Empire Brass and London Festival Orchestra.
  • One of the most festive and toe-tapping numbers is "Sleigh Ride" by Boston Pops Orchestra - listen out for it!

  • Until 2005, Main Street was illuminated by 13 giant, flat, white arches covered in lights and spanning across the street, a "roof" over the area. Known as the 'Lights of Winter', they featured patterns of snowflakes within their metal structures and literally thousands of filament bulb lights in several colours.
  • After over 10 years of use, the arches were becoming expensive to maintain and now used old technology. For the 2005 season, a brand new set of illuminations were introduced - the Enchanted Fairly Chandeliers.
  • Designed to light the street whilst allow a view of the Castle blocked by the arches, these state-of-the-art lights use only LEDs - energy-efficient, long-lasting "light-emitting diodes" that allow for advanced programming of the lights and the easy addition of alternate colour schemes - such as orange during Halloween. On Christmas nights, the candeliers "shimmer" along the street, their lights gradually fading in and out.
  • Portions of the Lights of Winter can still be seen dotted throughout the resort's backstage areas as "decoration", whilst a similar set of traditional lights of Epcot in Florida are still in use.

The heartbeat of the holidays!
Celebrate Christmas with all the turn-of-the-century charm of Main Street USA, and discover a warm, festive atmosphere just like the good ol' days.

It's the turn-of-the-century, and Main Street, U.S.A. is busy preparing for a holiday season you'll truly never forget. The street comes alive with a bustling seasonal atmosphere as it celebrates Christmas with all the traditional charm and confident grandeur you'd expect of the times. Gleaming decorations of baubles, ribbons and garlands adorn every building and colourful wreaths hang around every lamppost.

This is Christmas with all the warmth, charm and elegance of the good old days, a Christmas where everyone comes together to spread good will, joy and enchantment. There's nothing else like it, every moment on Main Street during Christmas-time is pure magic.

Key Decorations

The Giant Christmas Tree

Towering proudly into the sky next to the gazebo, the tree is the icon of Christmas for the entire resort. It is decorated in a traditional turn-of-the-century style with baubles, toys and bright red ribbons, a stack of presents at its base.

Once night falls, the tree becomes a part of the Enchanted Candleabration and is illuminated thanks to Tinkerbell's ever-useful pixie dust. After the ceremony, the tree remains a beautiful, illuminated centrepiece to the street, providing a traditional, warm yellow glow to remind you of home.

Town Square & Central Plaza Christmas Tree Forests

The flower beds of Town Square are covered with thick white snow, a forest of trees sprinkled with white snowflakes filling the square around the Giant Christmas Tree. Throughout the day and night, they twinkle and sparkle with bright blue and white LED lights.

At Central Plaza, the trees are covered completely with LED lights, blue for their trunks and white for the branches - an illuminating effect when seen sparkling into life during the Enchanted Candleabration!

Enchanted Fairytale Chandeliers

In honour of its royal guests for the Enchanted Candleabration, Main Street, U.S.A. has been dressed up with a stunning line of towering chandeliers right along the length of the street. Featuring beads, tiaras and old-fashioned Princess portraits, the Enchanted Fairytale Chandeliers are a beauty to behold and a truly flamboyant addition for a turn-of-the-century time when anything was possible.

When day turns to night is when the chandeliers really begin to spread their magic. Following their grand illumination during the Enchanted Candleabration, their columns glow with brilliant white and purple, whilst the chandeliers themselves give an icy blue shine to compliment the Ice Palace lights of Le Château de la Belle au Bois Dormant.

For the 25th Anniversary, the chandeliers are joined by the park's spectacular new Lumière banners, hanging from the same columns. The banners make use of yellow and blue LED lights to give a twinkle and sparkle to Tinkerbell's pixie dust along the entire length of the street.

Main Street Shop Windows

The tradition of window shopping is alive and well on Main Street, U.S.A. - in fact, each Christmas Season the windows of every boutique along the street are completely redecorated with a unique new theme, with colourful lighting at night drawing you toward the warmth inside.

For the 2007/08 season, in honour of the hit Disney-Pixar film Ratatouille, the theme is "recipes and sweets".
